Foundation host Celtic Park lunch in the spirit of Brother Walfrid

Tuesday 18th April 2017

TO commemorate the anniversary of Brother Walfrid’s passing, Celtic FC Foundation once again welcomed over 200 guests from the homeless community to Celtic Park today (Tuesday) for lunch in the Kerrydale Suite.

In keeping with the Club’s Founding Father’s legacy, Celtic FC Foundation worked closely with local charities to help identify service users who could enjoy a hot meal. The lunch commenced with a few words from Foundation CEO, Tony Hamilton, before guests then enjoyed a relaxed three-course lunch.

Charities represented on the day included the Elpis Centre, Glasgow Night Shelter, Lodging House Mission, Salvation Army, Simon Community Scotland, Turning Point Scotland, The Marie Trust, The Big Issue Foundation, The Invisibles and the Wayside Club Centre.

Tony Hamilton, (pictured below with representatives from some of the service providers) said: “We hosted this lunch two years ago at the one hundredth anniversary of Brother Walfrid’s death, but we aim to do it every year from now on in April.

“Our anti-poverty work will continue and opening up our doors to our fellow citizens who are homeless is hugely important to us, as is the work we do with other sections of the community such as the Glasgow NE Foodbank.

“We are all very grateful that so many people had lunch at Celtic Park with us and I would like to also thank the people, many of whom are volunteers, who run these other charities and helped us deliver a successful and memorable event.”
