Monday 12th March 2018

CELTIC FC Foundation is delighted to announce the success of the fourth annual ‘Inspiring Sport’ event at Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell.

In partnership with Scottish Disability Sport, the ‘Inspiring Sport’ event is specifically for pupils in mainstream primary and secondary schools throughout the West of Scotland with physical disabilities or visual impairments – and participants were given a special boost with Hoops defender Kieran Tierney among the attendees.

It was an afternoon of sporting excellence at the North Lanarkshire sports facility, with a wide variety of disciplines on display, including Basketball, Boccia, Athletics, Football, Judo, Tennis, Table Tennis, Bowls and Sitting Volleyball.

Prioritising sustainable participation in sport, the event aims to identify and introduce talented athletes to the world of Parasport, offering pathways for participants to develop their sporting interest by showcasing the benefits of local club sport and activity sessions.

Kieran Tierney, said: “It is a privilege to attend today’s event, to support the great work of the ‘Inspiring Sport’ project and meet such remarkable children and young people.

"It is important to acknowledge the staff of Scottish Disability Sport for hosting the festival, they make such a positive difference to so many deserving people. They deserve praise for the work they do in providing a pathway into sport for children and talented athletes with a disability in Scotland.”

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, added: “It’s been another tremendous day of energy and enthusiasm at our ‘Inspiring Sport’ event – and I’d like to thank our partners at Scottish Disability Sport for their continued commitment and support.

“For those living with disabilities, driving mass participation in sport is a key priority for Celtic FC Foundation – and with 105 pupils in attendance from 12 schools across the West of Scotland, today’s event will go a long way to ensuring young people are suitably inspired to get involved.”
