Foundation Christmas Appeal beneficiary: Salvation Army Parkhead

Friday 7th December 2018

AS we look forward to Saturday evening’s Ghirls for Good event, we continue our spotlight series on this Christmas Appeal beneficiaries, with attention now turning to the Salvation Army Parkhead.

Established in the 19th century, the Salvation Army began as a benevolent charitable organisation dedicated to alleviating hardship and empowering the impoverished. Through their unit in Parkhead, the Salvation Army aim to provide support to some of the most impoverished and vulnerable individuals living in the area.

Major Colin Bradshaw of the Salvation Army spoke of the work done by the organisation and expressed his thanks for the support received.

He said: “This Christmas, the Salvation Army Parkhead will continue to support to the most vulnerable individuals in our community. I regularly hear from parents or guardians that they hate Christmas because it causes so much pain and heartache for their children. We want to ensure that every child trapped in poverty that we encounter, will have a special Christmas Day experience.

“Support from Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal helps allow us to do this and I would like to thank the Foundation and everyone who has generously donated to this year’s Christmas Appeal.”

Our Ghirls for Good guests have been asked to bring along a gift tomorrow evening for a local child, who is sick or disadvantaged, and the Salvation Army Parkhead is among the charities which will help distribute these before the sleigh bells ring on Christmas Eve.

It becomes the eighth Christmas Appeal beneficiary to be announced thus far, joining Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Invisibles, St. Roch’s FC Foundation, Glasgow City Mission, St. Anne’s Primary School, St. Anne’s Church and Spirit Aid.

Through our Appeal, we’re aiming to help local families and pensioners who face poverty and hardship, and a number of charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage.

So please help us Make Dreams Come True this Christmas.
