1888 Charity Shield

Celtic Charity has always been an integral part of Celtic Football Club, uniting the Celtic Family around the world in collectively-held values and beliefs. We launched our 1254125 fundraising initiative in the summer of 2012 and are asking every Celtic supporter across the globe to raise £125 in the Club’s 125th Anniversary Year, to improve the lives of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.

One of our key 1254125 events – the inaugural 1888 Charity Shield – will take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 25 atCeltic’s Barrowfield Training Ground, with access to Celtic Park for hospitality, changing facilities and the SPL trophy. The net proceeds of the event will support Celtic Charity’s work with disabled children in local communities and, in particular, our partnership with Scottish Disability Sport.

The seven-a-side tournament will see 16 teams battle it out to lift the Shield for the very first time. The format will include Champions League-style groups, with the top two from each of the four groups progressing to the knockout quarter-final stages.

The victorious squad of 10 will not only be presented with the magnificent Shield but will also receive a fantastic matchday experience at Celtic Park for an SPL match, including presentation at half-time (date TBC). Silver medals will be presented to runners-up and all participants will receive an exclusive corporate gift.

Principal sponsor of the event is Glasgow family firm, ACE Refrigeration. Their roots have been firmly established in the city’s east end since 1951, with the company’s current head office run by the McKenzie family in Milnbank Street, just off Alexandra Parade.

Sales Director Shane McKenzie has high hopes of captaining his ACE All-Stars to victory saying; ‘ Celtic Charity is supporting local causes as well as those further afield. It’s a great opportunity for us to give back to the community which has been a good home to ACE Refrigeration for all these years. We are all looking forward to a great day out and raising as much money as we can for this great cause.”

All trophies and corporate gifts are very generously being donated by The Trophy Centre.
