What is Walfrid's Wish

Since Celtic Football Club was formed in 1887, charity has paved the Celtic Way as our supporters continually celebrate and participate in the charitable traditions of the Club. Today, this core founding principle, is upheld and developed by Celtic FC Foundation.

Via our regular giving initiative, Walfrid’s Wish, we invite supporters to continue the legacy of Brother Walfrid by becoming a Champion of Celtic FC Foundation, and making a monthly contribution to the advancement of our work.

‘A football club will be formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed.’
(Brother Walfrid, November 1887)

To mirror the charitable vision of our Founding Father, monies raised through Walfrid’s Wish are devoted to supporting those, primarily on our doorstep but also further afield, who are facing poverty. Sadly, the issues that existed in 1887 still remain today, 133 years later.

Proceeds raised have supported our partnership with the North East Foodbank, as well as our Brother Walfrid community lunches, in which we open our doors to guests from the homeless and refugee communities.
